Perplexity AI Debuts Text-to-Video Generation for Subscribers
On August 12, Perplexity, the AI-driven search engine known for seamlessly blending LLM-powered answers with browsing assistance, introduced, a new video creation tool for its premium subscribers.
What’s New?
Subscribers Only: The text-to-video feature is available to Pro and Max tier subscribers, enabling them to generate 8-second video clips with synchronized audio.
Multi-Platform Launch: Accessible across Web, iOS, and Android via Perplexity’s app and browser interfaces.
How It Works
Users simply type a prompt starting with “Generate a video of…” within the search box.
After about 1–2 minutes, the AI produces an 8-second video, downloadable or shareable directly from the platform.
Max subscribers enjoy enhanced video quality and higher rate limits, while Pro users receive standard-quality output.
According to the official documentation, Pro and Enterprise Pro users are limited to 5 video credits per month, while Max users get 15.
The videos use the Veo 3 model—with Max getting “high quality” mode and Pro/Enterprise “fast” mode.
Availability:
Most Pro and Max users should now see the option, it may not appear for everyone right away, depending on region or rollout phase.
Mobile users must update their app to the latest version to access it.
Pricing & Plan Details
Perplexity offers two tiers with video support:
Pro Plan: Around $20/month, standard video quality and access.
Max Plan: Priced at $200/month, providing enhanced quality and higher usage limits, along with perks like unlimited project access and early product releases (e.g., the Comet browser).
The strategic distinction between these plans offers flexibility for both casual users and power users needing extensive capability.
Perplexity’s Growing Multimedia Toolkit
Perplexity is evolving—no longer just an answer engine, it’s becoming a multimedia content creator:
Previously, they added image generation, giving users visual outputs from prompts.
Now, with video and audio, Perplexity joins the ranks of competitors like Google (Veo) and OpenAI (Sora), aiming to strengthen its position in the AI content space.
This new capability opens the door for users to add richer visual content to projects, presentations, storytelling, or social sharing—enhancing creativity and communication.
