Google Launches Standalone NotebookLM Apps for Android and iOS

Google has officially released its AI-powered research and note-taking tool, NotebookLM, as standalone mobile apps for Android and iOS platforms.

Previously accessible only via desktop, the mobile versions bring core functionalities to users on the go.

Key Features:

AI-Generated Summaries and Q&A: Users can upload various sources—such as PDFs, websites, and YouTube videos—and receive concise summaries.

The app also allows users to ask questions about their uploaded content, providing answers with inline citations.

Audio Overviews: NotebookLM can transform uploaded materials into podcast-style audio summaries, enabling users to listen to content while multitasking or offline.

Seamless Integration: The app integrates with the device’s share sheet, allowing users to add content directly from other apps.

It also supports light and dark modes, adapting to the device’s system settings.

The launch of NotebookLM’s mobile apps coincides with the upcoming Google I/O 2025 conference, highlighting Google’s commitment to enhancing AI-driven productivity tools.

NotebookLM is available for download on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

Background

Google originally launched NotebookLM in 2023 as an experimental AI research and note-taking assistant and then launched its NotebookLM Plus plan for businesses, schools, organizations, and enterprise customers in December 2023.

This version includes enhanced capabilities such as larger content uploads, improved data handling, and priority access to new features.

It also supports multi-user environments, making it ideal for team collaboration and educational settings.

NotebookLM Plus is also included in the Google One AI Premium subscription, which bundles advanced AI tools across Google’s ecosystem, including features in Gmail, Docs, and Drive powered by Gemini.
