Black Forest Labs has officially released FLUX.1 Kontext, a powerful suite of AI models designed for next-generation image creation and editing.

Unlike traditional text-to-image models, FLUX.1 Kontext can understand both text and image inputs, making it possible to generate and edit images in a way that keeps characters, styles, and visual details consistent throughout the process.

What’s New in FLUX.1 Kontext?

The FLUX.1 Kontext suite includes two main models:

Flux.1 Kontext [pro]: Ideal for fast, detailed editing tasks like changing clothes, hairstyles, restyling scenes, or even rewriting visible text.

Flux.1 Kontext [max]: Focused on speed, prompt accuracy, and character consistency, with the ability to generate photorealistic images and even videos from a single image.

Both models are cloud-based only, meaning they aren’t available for offline download.

Powerful Features for Creative Flexibility

FLUX.1 Kontext brings several advanced features to the table:

Edit specific parts of an image without affecting the rest.

Generate portrait series, colorize black-and-white photos, or place characters in iconic settings.

Maintain character identity and visual consistency across multiple scenes.

Easily change styles, outfits, or backgrounds — all with a simple prompt.

Availability:

The FLUX.1 Kontext models are already available on popular platforms like Freepik, OpenArt, LTX Studio, Replicate, and Fal.

Additionally, Black Forest Labs has launched a model playground on its own site, where users can test the models without needing to sign up for a third-party service.

New users get 200 free credits, enough to generate about 12 images using Kontext [pro].

A third version — Flux.1 Kontext [dev] — is being released in private beta for research and safety testing. This open-weight model is smaller and customizable, making it a flexible tool for developers.
