Amazon Introduces ‘Buy for Me’—An AI Shopping Assistant

Amazon has launched a new AI-powered shopping tool called “Buy for Me”, available to a limited group of users.

Amazon’s AI Now Shops for You

If Amazon doesn’t sell a product a user is searching for, Buy for Me tool will suggest similar options from other websites. Users can then buy the item without leaving the Amazon app.

Buy for Me feature lets Amazon handle purchases on third-party websites by automatically filling in the user’s name, address, and payment details.

Amazon says the tool is powered by its Nova AI models and Anthropic’s Claude, including the newly introduced Nova Act, which can navigate websites on its own.

To protect user data, Amazon claims it encrypts payment details, meaning the company itself can’t see what users are buying from other sites.

Amazon wants users to trust its AI to make accurate purchases and accept less control over their shopping. Returns and exchanges must be handled directly with the original seller.

Buy for Me tool could help Amazon expand its influence in online shopping, even when products aren’t available on its own platform.

Buy for Me’ vs. Other Shopping Apps: What’s Different?

Amazon’s Buy for Me AI feature is similar to shopping assistants like Google Shopping and PayPal’s autofill but goes further by directly purchasing items from third-party sites.

Unlike Shopify’s Shop app, which tracks orders across retailers, Amazon’s AI actively buys on users’ behalf.

This gives Amazon more e-commerce reach but limits user control compared to Honey or Rakuten, which focus on deals rather than direct purchases.
