Samsung to Launch AI-Powered Restaurant in Portugal
Samsung is set to open a unique pop-up restaurant experience in Portugal, offering diners the opportunity to co-create their meals using artificial intelligence.
The restaurant is called Sem Igual—Portuguese for “Without Equal” or “Unique”—the restaurant will debut in Lisbon for two days, on May 8 and 9, before moving to Porto for another two-day event on May 16 and 17.
How It Works: Personalized Dishes Designed by AI
At the heart of the Sem Igual experience is the Samsung Galaxy S25 and its suite of Galaxy AI capabilities.
Guests will be provided with a Galaxy S25 at their table, which they’ll use to photograph ingredients of their choice.
Diners can select One protein, One carbohydrate, Three vegetables and One sauce. Samsung galaxy will generate recipe using AI.
From AI to Plate: Crafted by a Real Chef
The AI-generated recipe will be handed off to Chef João Dourado and his culinary team, who will prepare the personalized dish on the spot.
While the technology provides inspiration and customization, the actual cooking remains in the hands of professional chefs—a reminder that, despite advances, AI still can’t replace human culinary expertise.
Part of a Broader Galaxy S25 Campaign
This pop-up is part of Samsung’s broader marketing push to showcase the capabilities of the Galaxy S25 and its AI-driven features.
Galaxy AI is designed to assist with a wide range of tasks—from language translation and image editing to travel planning and, now, recipe creation.
Limited Engagement, But Wide Appeal
Access to the Sem Igual experience will be free of charge, but available only for a limited time.
While Samsung has not announced plans to expand the concept beyond Portugal, the innovative blend of technology, personalization, and food has already generated excitement across Europe.
This initiative highlights the growing consumer interest in experiences that merge AI, creativity, and lifestyle, offering a glimpse into how technology can inspire—even in the kitchen.
AI in Cooking:
Today’s smart kitchens feature a range of AI-powered tools designed to simplify and personalize cooking.
Smart ovens like the June Oven and Samsung Bespoke AI Oven can recognize food and auto-adjust cooking settings.
Smart assistants such as Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub provide hands-free recipe guidance and timer control.
Smart refrigerators like the Samsung Family Hub and LG ThinQ suggest meals based on what’s inside and help with inventory tracking.
Devices like the Drop Scale and apps like Whisk enable accurate ingredient measurement and AI-assisted meal planning.
More advanced tools, such as robotic chefs like Moley Robotic Kitchen and Nymble’s Julia, even prepare full meals automatically.
While these tools focus on enhancing the home cooking experience, Samsung’s upcoming Sem Igual restaurant takes this innovation further by letting diners use the Galaxy S25 smartphone and Galaxy AI to co-create custom meals, which are then prepared by a real chef.
